The XR-640 incorporates the latest in inkjet technology design. It features two 8-channel piezo inkjet heads with 180 nozzles per channel. The print heads are arranged in an inline formation with seven different droplet sizes, allowing for smoother gradations and richer density for photographic and high-resolution vector output. Configured in a mirrored pattern through seven colors, in any of the four ink configurations, chromatic banding is virtually eliminated in bi-directional printing. High-Speed PrintingWith print speeds of up to 528 sq. ft. (49 m2/h) per hour for CMYK applications, as well as print/cut capability, the XR-640 expedites the production cycle by allowing you to print and contour cut your designs together – even unattended – in one easy, seamless step. Print/Cut AdvantageThe XR-640 large-format printer/cutter streamlines the production process by automatically contour cutting printed graphics. This integrated system eliminates the need to reload and reposition graphics, saving valuable time and effort. For cutting laminated graphics, the Quadralign four-point optical registration system automatically realigns the cutting path and compensates for media skew and distortion. With its included TU-2 take-up system, the printer is capable of performing long, unattended print runs with contour cutting. The Pro 4 can also function as a stand-alone vinyl cutter. Roland's new, high-definition Eco - Sol MAX 2 eco-solvent inks are specially designed to optimize image quality and color on a wide range of coated and uncoated media. Like Roland's original Eco-Sol MAX inks, the new Eco-Sol MAX 2 inks are environmentally friendly and virtually odorless, so there's no need for special air filtration systems. Eco-Sol MAX 2 inks are also nickel-free for a healthier work environment. Inks are packaged in convenient 440 ml cartridges (White and silver available in 220 ml cartridges only) and are water, scratch and UV resistant up to three years outdoors*. Combined with variable droplet technology, Roland Eco -Sol MAX 2 inks deliver more brilliant color with superb detail in the highlights and smoother blends and transitions overall.
The Pro 4 XR-640 comes standard with Roland's Automated Ink Circulation System to prevent the pigments in metallic silver and white inks from settling. Designed to reduce waste of white and metallic silver ink, the circulation system dramatically lowers running costs while ensuring exceptional image quality throughout the longest production runs. 
The DU-640 Heater/Blower is offered as an option for the XR-640 and offers users several advantages, including the ability to print highly saturated images at full speed while using the take-up rollers. Image transfer and sticking caused by rolling up wet images are eliminated. For increased media feeding accuracy during print/cut operations, the DU-640 also enables users to take full advantage of all the XR-640 pinch rollers. The DU-640 is required for printing with white and metallic inks.
